The season opener at Kernan Playing Fields saw Craigavon City U15 secure a thrilling 3-2 victory over Markethill Swifts U15. Craigavon started the game on the front foot, taking control early. Their pressure paid off with a goal in the 10th minute to make it 1-0. Ten minutes later, they doubled their lead with a stunning long-range strike from their midfielder, a goal from far out that left the goalkeeper with no chance, making it 2-0.

Markethill Swifts began to find their rhythm, and a glimmer of hope arose as, Oscar took the ball out of the sky with an excellent touch and placed the ball to the right of the net, however in the build there was a handball so the goal was chalked off, denying Markethill a way back into the game. Five minutes before halftime, Craigavon struck again, scoring their third goal and heading into the break with a commanding 3-0 lead.

After the restart, Markethill came out with renewed determination. In the 50th minute, their efforts were rewarded when a Jamie Henning corner found Daniel G, who calmly slotted the ball home to make it 3-1. Minutes later, Tom thought he had further reduced the deficit, but his goal was ruled out for offside.

Markethill refused to give up, and in the 55th minute, Oscar set up Daniel C, who finished neatly into the bottom left corner, bringing the score to 3-2. The Swifts continued to press for an equalizer, and a cross from Daniel C to the back post nearly found Caie, but he couldn’t quite connect.

Despite their late surge, Markethill Swifts couldn’t find a third goal, and Craigavon City held on to claim a hard-fought 3-2 victory, starting their season with a valuable win.
